Periodontal or gum disease is an infection affecting the tissues surrounding the teeth. These tissues include the gums and bone supporting the teeth. Periodontal disease is usually a slow, painless, progressive condition. Most adults with this disease are unaware they have it but if diagnosed and treated early the teeth can be saved.learn more
Deep tooth decay, deep fractures or an injury due to trauma, can cause serious damage and infection to the pulp. If the pulp becomes infected, the infection can spread through the entire root canal system of the tooth. This will eventually lead to an abscess. Root canal, or endodontic treatment, cleans out the infected pulp chamber and repairs the damage so the tooth can be saved.learn more
Mahdi has had a passion for endodontics since he left dental school and decided to pursue his interest by embarking upon the three-year MSc Endodontic Practice programme at Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry. Here he was able to greatly advance his knowledge base and technical skill in endodontics, and also gained valuable experience by treating complex cases referred to the hospital by general dental practitioners.
On the MSc programme, Mahdi was able to contribute to the field of endodontics by conducting research, focusing on instrumentation using the latest engine-driven files. He works part-time as an Honorary Lecturer in Endodontics at the Institute of Dentistry at Queen Mary University of London, where he greatly enjoys teaching the postgraduate endodontics students and is involved in research.
Mahdi is a member of the British Endodontic Society and keeps up to date with the latest advancements by reading endodontic specific journals; the ‘International Endodontic Journal’ and 'Endo – Endodontic Practice Today’. You can see examples of Mahdi's work at www.ma-endo.co.uk.
Outside of work, Mahdi enjoys playing sports such as table tennis, badminton and squash, reads detective novels and takes walks in the countryside to relax.
Before moving to Sawbridgeworth he worked in a London practice and abroad as a Chief Dental Officer for a province in Papua New Guinea. This experience proved very useful when he took over the practice in 1990, as it has equipped him to continually improve both the care and quality of treatment we offer. He is firmly committed to the practice providing NHS dentistry for all those that need it. His primary focus, however, is on private dentistry because it better enables him to pursue excellence when freed from the constraints of NHS rationing. Private dentistry allows more time for consultation, and treatment with a much wider range of materials and procedures, achieving the best possible results.
His 30 years in practice has taught him that it is possible to retain a complete and healthy set of teeth throughout the whole of your life. He sees helping you achieve this as the most important part of his job. He do not believe in quick fixes that won’t last, but strive for quality results that will last a lifetime.
